Alphonse Mucha: An Insight into the Artist is a major retrospective featuring over 240 works, including many that have never been shown in Japan before, alongside a wide range of oil paintings, studies, sketches, jewellery and posters from the Mucha family collection. The exhibition will explore the artistic vision and ideals behind Mucha's works. Through his own words and works, visitors will gain an insight into his creative process, his ambitions and his achievements. The exhibition will be organised in six sections representing important themes or phases in his career: Mucha the Czech Sarah Bernhardt & the Theatre World Le Style Mucha & Art Nouveau The Message of Beauty Paris 1900 Visions for Humanity Rare works such as a satin-silk edition of The Arts series, comprised of 4-colour lithographs: Dance, Painting, Poetry and Music will feature in the show. This exhibition will be a great opportunity for all Mucha fans and art lovers to deepen their understanding of Mucha and his inner world.

L'Art Nouveau français est né au début des années 1890, à Nancy et à Paris, de la réunion de peintres, de sculpteurs, d'architectes, d'artisans et d'industriels, sous les bannières de L'Art dans tout et de L'Art pour tous. Cette nouvelle forme d'art rassembla des hommes aussi différents qu'Emile Gallé, Eugène Grasset, Hector Guimard ou Victor Prouvé. Les formes des objets se mirent à ressembler à la vie. De la rêverie sur l'eau naquirent des tableaux, des céramiques, des œuvres de verre. La plante fournit des modèles de lampes, de cheminées, de tables ou de lits. Du corps de la femme on fit des coffrets à bijoux, des bibliothèques ou des videpoches. L'homme au travail devint l'image du bonheur. De ce monde perdu ce livre exhume quelques-uns des plus beaux chefs-d'œuvre, et les situe dans l'histoire du tout début du XXe siècle.

Die Ausstellung Bereits im frühen 20. Jahrhundert galten Plakate als „Kunst der Straße“, wurden von Museen und Privatpersonen gesammelt sowie in Ausstellungen und Publikationen gewürdigt. In ihrem Wunsch, alle Lebensbereiche künstlerisch zu gestalten, haben sich auch zahlreiche Mitglieder der Künstlerkolonie Darmstadt (1899-1914) der Vermittlung ihrer Ideen im öffentlichen Raum gewidmet. Sie schufen hierbei – als bedeutsamen Bestandteil des Gesamtkunstwerks Mathildenhöhe – herausragende Plakate, die heute zu den Ikonen der Werbekunst zählen. The prince of decadence Looking at Klimt in a whole new light: a groundbreaking monograph The countless events being held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth make a clear statement to the enduring appreciation for the work of Gustav Klimt. Not that it takes such a special occasion for the press and the public to start talking about Klimt. More than two hundred articles about the artist appeared online in August 2011 alone, in comparison with barely seventy on Rembrandt within the same period. This media publicity set editor Tobias G. Natter thinking about the value of compiling the present book. During his lifetime, Klimt was a controversial star whose works made passions run high; he stood for Modernism but he also embodied tradition. His pictures polarized and divided the art-loving world. Journalists and general public alike were split over the question: For or against Klimt? The present publication therefore places particular emphasis upon the voices of Klimt’s contemporaries via a series of essays examining reactions to his work throughout his career. Subjects range from Klimt’s portrayal of women to his adoption of landscape painting in the second half of his life. The cliché that Gustav Klimt was a man of few words who rarely put pen to paper is vehemently dispelled: no less than 179 letters, cards, writings and other documents are included in this monograph. Since October 2011 he has been the director of the Leopold Museum in Vienna. His extensive publications and his conception and organization of exhibitions on the theme of “Vienna around 1900” have made him an internationally acknowledged expert on Viennese art at the turn of the century.
