NameSeminar Melilla Art Nouveau, Modernisme and Neo-modernisme
DescriptionPart of the Partnership Framework Agreement between the University of Granada and the "Monumental city Foundation Melilla " (Autonomous City of Melilla), developed in Granada, Málaga and, crucially, in the modernist city of Melilla, the sixth edition of the Permanent Seminar on History of Art “Melilla Art Nouveau, Modernisme and Neo-modernisme” will be held from 19 to 24 May 2014. Among other architects and civil and military engineers, the figure of Barcelona architect Enrique Nieto (collaborator of Antoni Gaudí), in space and in time, will be discussed by a dozen students in Art History led by Dr. D. Gallego Salvador Aranda (Professor of Art History and specialist in modernist architecture), highlighting its Art Nouveau architectural heritage, which in recent years, seems to emerge as a revival in the city, settling in "neo" and receiving aesthetic range of classic and universal language. Economic, social, intercultural, commercial, tourist, educational, geographical, political, religious, literary and historical factors will be discussed in turn, in order to contextualize the property assets and inherently past reality, present and future of this city that aspires to become a "World Heritage City".
