Name
Display - Abbot Hall at Blackwell
Description
The fiftieth anniversary of Abbot Hall Art Gallery has presented us with the perfect excuse for unearthing many of the little-seen treasures from the Lakeland Arts Trust stores. When Blackwell was restored in 1999-2001, a number of the former bedrooms were redesigned as gallery rooms; these retain the character of domestic spaces, with architectural features such as fireplaces and windows providing a unique gallery setting. For this display, the intimate, semi-domestic Arts & Crafts interiors of Blackwell offer the perfect environment for viewing a selection of late-Victorian and Edwardian works from the Abbot Hall collection, including paintings and works on paper by artists such as Alfred Heaton Cooper, WG Collingwood, James Hamilton Hay and John Ruskin.
