NameArt Nouveau - Villa Ortiz Basualdo - Mar Del Plata - Serrrurier-Bovy
DescriptionFrom its origins in Europe, Art Nouveau spread to South America, and to Argentina in particular, due to the strong influence of European culture at the end of the nineteenth century. Gustave Serrurier-Bovy, who had already designed and manufactured furniture for many European clients, was commissioned to design the furniture and interiors of a holiday villa in the Argentinian seaside resort of Mar del Plata : the Ortiz Basualdo villa. Today the villa, the only one of its type to have survived with its original interiors and furniture intact, is a municipal museum.
