Gustav Klimt. The drawings at the Albertina Museum

From 14th March to 10th June 2012

The great popularity of Gustav Klimt as a draftsman is primarily based on his female nude studies’ breathtaking sensuality. The exhibition Klimt. The Drawings impressively reveals how manifold his immense oeuvre of drawings actually is.

The Albertina shows a large part of its famous holdings of the artist’s works, which comprises one hundred and seventy sheets. This unique selection is completed with outstanding loans from several Austrian and international collections.

Opening of the Art Nouveau Museum in Aveiro!

3rd March 2012, 18H00

The Arte Nova Museum of Aveiro is the interpretation centre of the extensive network of Art Nouveau buildings and element that can be found throughout the city. It is housed in the former residence of one of the city’s bourgeois citizens, Mario Pessoa, and the building’s design is attributed to Silva Rocha and/or Ernesto Korrodi.

The museum’s focus on Art nouveau is treated in an informational rather than documentary manner and the architectural elements that make this movement unique in Portugal possess a very specific stylistic quality, as is the case in other European countries with an Art Nouveau heritage.

Publication: Charles l'Eplattenier by Anouk Hellmann

Publié by Editions Gilles Attinger

If we only have today a scrappy knowledge of Charles L’Eplattenier’s life and work, this is explained by the fact that no recent and important publication has been devoted to him. A unique book was published in his lifetime in 1933 as well as some researches well-targeted on his teacher’s role during the training of his most famous student (Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, future Le Corbusier).

The 14th volume of the collection “revisited Artists of Neuchâtel” will fill in this gap, enabling to evaluate the situation on the multiplicity of the projects designed and realised by the artist throughout his career. This bias gives a kaleidoscopic aspect to the work and has the advantage to revisit the colossal production, though uneven, of a landscape architect, portraitist, decorator, statuary but also teacher, patriot and collector.

Gustav Klimt: Up close and Personal at the Leopold Museum - from 24 February to 11 June 2012

Images, letters, Insights

Klimt’s major work „Death and Life“ created in 1910 and overworked in 1915 as well as a range of other important paintings and over a hundred drawings by Gustav Klimt are held by the Leopold Museum. Furthermore a big part of the Emilie Flöge estate, containing hundreds of postcards, photographs and letters written by Gustav Klimt for over two decades to his partner in life Emilie Flöge, are part of the Leopold collection. Among them there are art cards designed by the Wiener Werkstätte, tube mail, telegrams as well as a manifold correspondence, that Klimt conducted with his friends and family in Vienna while enjoying his seasonal summer retreat at the Salzkammergut, at the Attersee and in Gastein or during his journeys that led him all across Europe to Italy, Paris, Bruxelles and London. By Klimt‘s impressions one can gain insight into a personal view of the artist on arts, everyday life, his fears, joys and worries. On the occasion of the Klimt-year 2012 the Leopold Museum takes the postcards and correspondences to the centre stage of an exhibition for the very first time and focuses mainly on Klimt’s journeys. At the same time the showing invites the public to take a time journey that leads through life and work of the artist and highlights Klimt’s most important artistic and private life situations.

From 27th of January 2012 till 4th of March, 2012

With pleasure and many thanks to all donors a new exhibition has been open on January 27, 2012.
Riga Art Nouveau Museum continues to enrich a collection of Art Nouveau items and on year 2011 it has been complemented with more than 1300 home and interior design items: clothing, shoes, dishes, photos, postcards, books and paintings etc.

There are two unique acquisitions – an authentic set of curtains from early beginning of the 20th century and a chessboard with the financial support of the State Culture Capital Foundation.
Riga Art Nouveau museum thanks all the people who supported to enrich the Art Nouveau interior of the architect Konstantin Peksen’s apartment!
