Darmstadt
World Concepts - The Artists' Colony in Darmstadt 1899 – 1914
Dates:06/05/2015-21/02/2016

Comprehensive new presentation of the collection of Jugendstil/Art Nouveau and Modernism in the Artists' Colony Museum (Museum Künstlerkolonie). On the basis of works of fine and applied art, as well as models and multimedia presentations the outstanding importance of artists' colony for the development of architecture, art and design since 1900 will be presented.

The exhibition highlights six chronologically important steps in the period 1898-1914, which enable the visitors to envision the wide spectrum of artistic creation of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. Here, an emphasis is placed on the four major presentations, which took place at the Mathildenhöhe in the years 1901, 1904, 1908 and 1914. The exhibition "World concepts" covers both wings of the Artists’ Colony Museum and thus offers over 450m2 of exhibition space for around 300 art works.

The exhibition presents works of art of all 23 former Artists' Colony members, with outstanding works by Peter Behrens, Hans Christiansen and Joseph Maria Olbrich. It will also present art works from the municipal art collection of Darmstadt, which are first issued in the Artists' Colony Museum.

In addition to a bilingual audio guide (German and English) a web app for smartphones will be available for the visitors to explore the exhibition and the exhibition grounds. A specially designed children's guide will also be available from May at the Artists' Colony Museum.

Wien
Wally Neuzil - Her Life with Egon Schiele
Dates:27/02/2015-01/06/2015

The painting “Wally”, housed by the Vienna Leopold Museum, is among the most well-known works by Egon Schiele. The upcoming exhibition at the Leopold Museum seeks to uncover the person behind the portrait, Walburga “Wally” Neuzil (1894-1917), approaching her through artworks, autographs, photographs and documents. Featured in the presentation will be eminent paintings by Schiele, such as “Death and the Maiden”, an important loan from the Belvedere, as well as drawings and watercolors by Schiele for which Wally acted as a model. The exhibition comprises works from the Leopold Museum, the Leopold Private Collection as well as loans from Austrian and international collections.

The exhibition examines the stages of Wally’s life, her professions, from model to nurse, and tells the tale of a woman’s fate in fin-de-siècle Vienna, between self-sacrifice and self-fulfillment, between a life without taboos and profound humanity.

Praha 1
Vital Art Nouveau 1900
Dates:19/03/2014-31/12/2015
The exhibition to be held in the Municipal House in Prague will present a selection of the most outstanding works of Czech and European Art Nouveau art from the holdings of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The exhibition is intended to show the Art Nouveau arts and crafts as part of the ground-breaking, forward-looking trends and emancipation efforts that evolved in the late 19th century, as a reformist art movement that strove for “the multiplication and intensification of life”. The display will therefore explore the Art Nouveau aesthetic both in terms of modern artist designers' creative ambitions and the new zest for life that swept society as a whole. Masterpieces of decorative art exhibited at the famous Paris World’s Fair of 1900 will be on display, alongside works influenced by the various currents of thought popular at the time (such as the theories of Vitalism and Spiritism), as well as the formal and stylistic innovations in glassware, ceramics and furniture. Other areas will cover the radical changes in life style as reflected in interior design, the visual style of poster art and fashion. A self-service multimedia tablets presentation will be available to visitors, which will provide further information on selected items on view, their creators and the period context. The presentation will also offer 3D scans of Art Nouveau objects that were produced in the framework of the Partage Plus European project, along with online access to digitized foundations for European Art Nouveau art on the Europeana portal, drawn from the collections of prominent European institutions. A comprehensive catalogue featuring more than 400 items on display will be published to accompany the exhibition. Open daily 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. 24.12. open 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., 31.12. open 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
