10th Barcelona Modernista Fair in Barcelona - from 30 May to 1 June 2014

Between 30 May and 1 June 2014, Cor Eixample (Trade and Professional Association for the Right Side of the Eixample) and Barcelona City Council are holding the 10th Barcelona Modernista Fair. The Fair is part of the activities of the Right Side of the Eixample’s local festival and this year celebrates its tenth edition.

As in past years, the event will be held in Carrer Girona, between Avinguda Diagonal and Carrer València, with various activities also taking place on the side lanes of Avinguda Diagonal.

There will be heaps of leisure and cultural activities for young people, adults and toddlers, including guided tours, children’s workshops, Modernista puppets, a parade of vintage cars, a vintage train ride, conferences on Modernisme, some spectacular period attractions, a family bike ride (you must be dressed in period costume to participate), street entertainment and many other surprises. Other towns and organisations connected in some way to Modernisme will also be present, as well as a stand offering information and products related to the Barcelona Modernisme Route.

This year the Fair is dedicated to the centenary of the first car with an Elizalde engine, which was built in the Elizalde factory located at Passeig de Sant Joan 149 in Barcelona.

In addition, whoever comes dressed in Art Nouveau period clothes will receive a gift photo of themselves and go into the draw for some handmade products and other prizes.

Exhibition The Cradle of Art Nouveau. Victor Horta and Brussels at the BIP in Brussels – from 26 March to 30 June 2014

The Monuments and Sites Department of the Brussels-Capital Region in cooperation with Visit Brussels, invite you to discover the exhibition “The Cradle of Art Nouveau. Victor Horta and Brussels”.

After its presentation at the American Institute of Architects in Washington in 2012 and at the Halles Saint Gery in Brussels in 2013, this travelling exhibition developed in four languages is organized from 26 March until 30 June 2014 at the BIP (Brussels Info Place), at the heart of Brussels.

Richly illustrated, the exhibition highlights the most beautiful realisations of the architect Victor Horta, registered on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and plunge the visitor in the intimacy of the creation of one of the greatest Art Nouveau artists, movement which has revolutionized the European spatial and architectural conceptions at the dawn of the XXth century. The Tassel, Solvay and Van Eetvelde Hôtels, as well as the personal house of the architect mix with the dismantled magnificence of the Aubecq Hôtel, demolished during the 1950’s, but of which a part of the façades, as a giant jigsaw, was recently put back together.

Free entrance from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Gallego Salvador Aranda (Professor of Art History and specialist in modernist architecture), highlighting its Art Nouveau architectural heritage, which in recent years, seems to emerge as a revival in the city, settling in "neo" and receiving aesthetic range of classic and universal language.

Economic, social, intercultural, commercial, tourist, educational, geographical, political, religious, literary and historical factors will be discussed in turn, in order to contextualize the property assets and inherently past reality, present and future of this city that aspires to become a "World Heritage City ".

Exhibition Paper workshop of Côme Perché at the Horta Museum in Brussels – from 16 May to 1 June 2014

The Horta Museum chose to invite, for Artists Tour, Côme Perché who gives a poetic interpretation of the nature using paper-folding. He makes use of all qualities of the paper’s fibre to create a world superbly stylized and intensely alive that human, animals or plants figures occupy. The creations of Côme Perché find themselves next to plaster models of plants of the XIXth century, shells or stuffed insects. The whole installation aims to awaken children’s fantasy, as well as reaching adults by its singular beauties.

Exhibition in the framework of Artists Tour Saint-Gilles & Forest under the patronage of M. Charles Picqué President of the asbl (association) Musée Horta and Burgomaster of Saint-Gilles

Travelling exhibition The Nature of Art Nouveau 2 in Nancy – from 20 December 2013 to 13 April 2014 - Last days!

Organised by the Réseau Art Nouveau Network in the framework of the European project "Art Nouveau & Ecology" (2010-2015) supported by the Culture 2007-2013 programme of the European Commission, the exhibition comprises two identical concurrent exhibitions and has begun its journey to all partner cities in October 2013.

Nature was the major inspiration source of Art Nouveau at the end of the 19th century. Through all over Europe blows a new creative wind. In Nancy, the naturalistic inspiration peaks in the poetic creations of Gallé, Daum, Prouvé, Majorelle… "The Nature of Art Nouveau" evokes the sources and the development of this inspiration trough European examples, and "Florilège" (Anthology) illustrates by new pieces the vision of Nancy…

Exhibition Art Nouveau in the Treasuries of Subotica at the Municipal Museum in Subotica – until April 2014

The temporary exhibition of the Municipal Museum of Subotica titled "Art Nouveau in the Treasuries of Subotica" presents art nouveau painting, sculpture, applied art, handicraft and industrial products from public collections of Subotica on an exhibition area of 200 m2. It intends to call attention to Art Nouveau objects preserved in public collections of the town, as well as to highlight the fact that the art nouveau style should not be noticed only in the monuments of architectural heritage in Subotica.

The centenary of finishing the construction of the Art Nouveau Town Hall designed by Marcell Komor (1868–1944) and Dezső Jakab (1864–1932) served as the occasion for preparing the exhibition in September 2012. This exhibition covers all the phases of Art Nouveau: the early period (from 1890’s to the turn of the 19th and 20th century), the mature (1900–1914) and the late (from 1914 to 1930’s) phases of the style.

The objects are presented within several smaller subject matters: characteristic items of male and female spheres of middle-class homes (fashion, bringing up children, personal hygiene, collections – okimono from Japan, medals –, the culture of reading, listening to music, concept of spare time, relaxation, engagement in fine arts, photography), as well as several characteristic scenes and phenomena of public life (coffee-house, cinema, concerts, Japanese fashion, spa life in Palić etc.).

The exhibition is open to visitors until April 2014.
