Commune de villégiature au 19e siècle, Uccle a su préserver son caractère résidentiel de charme. De grands architectes s'y établirent ou y construisirent des villas à l'époque de l'Art nouveau, notamment aux alentours de l'Observatoire ou du Dieweg, tels Henry van de Velde ou Victor Horta. La production de l'entre-deux-guerres témoigne également d'une grande qualité et diversité : Art Déco avec la villa du couple de mécènes Van Buuren et moderniste avec les villas de Louis Herman De Koninck dans le quartier du Prince d'Orange.

Alphonse Mucha: The Spirit of Art Nouveau

Alphonse Mucha (1890-1939) was one of the most important decorative artists in Paris at the turn of the century. His sensual female portraits with their elaborate borders?le style Mucha?embody the essence of Art Nouveau. The Mucha family and the Mucha Foundation have put together a touring exhibition of Mucha's work, and this is the companion volume. Though numerous works on Mucha have appeared in the past few decades, none have been as exhaustive as this illustrated group of essays by noted European experts. Fragile – Murano, chefs d'oeuvre de verre de la Renaissance au XXIème siècle

Après Canaletto, le musée Maillol prolonge le séjour à Venise. C’est en 1453, que les verriers vénitiens développent une technique du verre qui permet un rendu de la matière fine et claire (cristallo) telle qu’on la connaît aujourd’hui. De chefs-d’œuvre en brevets, ils sont les acteurs et les témoins de six siècles d’histoire.
Deux cents œuvres sont présentées : de la coupe nuptiale en lattimo décorée d’émaux raffinés et miroirs audacieux du XVIe siècle, aux coupes gravées à la pointe de diamant du XVIIe, aux curieux meubles de verre et aux lustres fous des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles, à l’Art nouveau et aux objets du design, véritables signes sociaux de leur époque, jusqu’aux installations des grands artistes contemporains tels que Jean Arp, César, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Jan Fabre, Maria Grazia Rozin, Mona Hatoum et d’autres.

9th Barcelona Modernista Fair

On 31 May, 1 and 2 June 2013, Cor Eixample—Trade and Professional Association for the Right Side of the Eixample—and the Barcelona City Council—are organising the ninth Barcelona Modernista Fair.
As in other years, the fair will be located on carrer Girona—between av. Diagonal and carrer d’Aragó—with leisure and cultural activities for young people, adults and the little ones. Among other activities, visitors can enjoy kids’ games, shows, workshops, a period cars tour, an old train, conferences on Modernisme, a family-orientated bike tour, street entertainment and many other surprises. Other towns and organisations which also share a relationship with Modernisme will be attending, as well as a stand offering information and selling products related to Barcelona’s Ruta del Modernisme.
Furthermore, whoever comes dressed in an Art Nouveau period style will receive a gift photo of themselves and go into the draw for a trip, among other prizes.

L'architecture en Belgique : Art Nouveau, Art déco & Modernisme

La prise de conscience du patrimoine architectural de la Belgique et le souci de sa préservation intéressent un public toujours plus nombreux, désireux d'une information de qualité. The Finnish Boy and the Porridge Painter. Bohemian Nordic Artists

Akseli Gallen-Kallela studied art in Paris in the 1880s. This exhibition is about his friendship with Nordic artist colleagues in Paris. Known as bohemians, these artists flaunted the rules of convention and challenged the art establishment. The focus of the exhibition is on the friendship Gallen-Kallela and the Norwegian artist Carl Dørnberger (1864–1940).
The artists of the exhibition are: Carl Dørnberger (Norway), Elin Danielson-Gambogi (Finland), Albert Engström (Sweden), Akseli Gallen-Kallela (Finland), Sven Jørgensen (Norway), Eero Järnefelt (Finland) and Emil Wikström (Finland).

Forever Young! Poland art and it's art around 1900

What makes it still attractive, interesting and liked despite the passage of time? Simply - eternally young? This question is asked by an exhibition presenting the best of around-1900 Polish Art in the renovated interiors of the Szołayski Tenement House - a Branch of the National Museum in Kraków, in the capital city of art at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.
The National Museum in Kraków invites you to the great exhibition entitled Forever Young! Poland and its art around 1900, where we will display around 300 works: paintings, prints, sculptures and crafts selected mostly from the Museum's own collection. The title of the exhibition alludes to the unwaning popularity of the art of that era, despite the fact, that, as it may seem, everything has already been said about it. It was not an accident that the Szołayski Tenement House was chosen for the venue of the exhibition. It was there that Feliks "Mangghi" Jasieński's (Young Poland's art collector) collections were housed and until recently the Museum of the most distinguished artist of that time - Stanisław Wyspiański was located there.
At the exhibition, in the first room, the Young Poland climate is evoked by the Green Balloon cabaret associated with personalities such as: Leon Schiller, Kazimierz Sichulski, Witold Wojtkiewicz, Adolf Nowaczyński and Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński. The irreverent and refreshing character of these nocturnal "happenings" is documented by drawings commenting on the Galician reality, prints from "Teka Melpomeny" with caricatures of Kraków actors in their most famous roles.
In the adjacent room, we will see self-portraits of authors whose works are presented in the further part of the exhibition, including: Olga Boznańska, Julian Fałat, Jacek Malczewski, Józef Mehoffer, Leon Wyczółkowski, Stanisław Wyspiański.
The slogan important for modernism - the city myth - will be illustrated with images of the Market Square, the Planty Park, Kraków churches or the Wawel Castle, all filled with melancholy, suggestively materializingg in the painting Planty o świcie (Planty Park at dawn) by Stanisław Wyspiański.
Another thread is devoted to the images of Young Poland's nature where the Galician artists sought refuge and inspiration when fatigued with their nocturnal Bohemian lifestyle. Apart from the famous impressionist paintings by Aleksander Gierymski, Władysław Podkowiński and Józef Pankiewicz, we will also present works by eminent Kraków artists – Stanisław Wyspiański, Leona Wyczółkowski, Jan Stanisławski. Expressive images showing the Tatra Mountains in pastel colours are certainly noteworthy. The theme of pristine nature will return again in the further part of the exhibition in the theme of rural folklore in the works by: Włodzimierz Tetmajer, Kazimierz Sichulski, Władysław Jarocki and Wacław Szymanowski.
The atmosphere of a Young Poland study will be recalled by presenting cosy children's portraits and official portraits of various personalities, as well as nudes, including Czerwona wstążka (Red Ribbon) by Weiss borrowed from the National Museum in Poznań.
Maeterlinck's quotation in the next room: „the smallest phenomenon, the smallest accident [...] are full of mysterious meaning” – reminds of the exploration of subconsciousness and the interest in the world of dreams, phantasies and religious mysticism which can be captured in the art of that time. Next to fauns from Jacek Malczewski's paintings, Wojciech Weiss's temptresses, works by Witold Wojtkiewicz, Franciszek Siedlecki, Wacław Szymanowski and others will also appear.
Outside the study and the legendary Kraków cafés, the Bohemian social life focused in Young Poland's drawing rooms. Their climate will be reproduced in another room presenting, among other things, portraits by Teodor Axentowicz, Ignacy Pieńkowski, Jacek Malczewski, still natures by Olga Boznańska and Józef Pankiewicz.
In the next rooms, on the other hand, we wish to remind of outstanding, not frequently displayed "fine and functional arts" - examples of works representing other disciplines which blossomed so impressively at the turn of the 19th century in spite of the difficult material and political conditions. They will include, among other things functional graphics, refined Young Poland prints, crafts inspired by folk art from the circels of the Polish Applied Art Society, the Technical and Industrial Museum in Kraków as well as Kraków Workshops and Young Poland posters which achieved full artistic independence and the European level at that time.

Se agrupan y presentan los edificios madrileños que recibieron la influencia de las distintas corrientes del modernismo internacional.
Esta guía de arquitectura pretende cubrir un vacío existente en el panorama editorial respecto al estudio e inventario de la arquitectura modernista. Para ello, se agrupan y presentan los edificios madrileños que de una forma u otra recibieron, desde patrones eclécticos, la influencia de las distintas corrientes del modernismo internacional. Se han seleccionado los edificios mas destacados de Madrid en los que se aprecian aspectos decorativos modernistas, desde grandes creaciones del modernismo madrileño hasta simples ejemplos de detalles ornamentales. Reflejando el sentido integrador de todas las artes decorativas que caracterizan el modernismo, se mencionan no sólo los arquitectos, primeros responsables de los proyectos y del diseño de muchos elementos decorativos, sino también los diferentes artistas que colaboraron con ellos: rejeros vidrieros, ceramistas, escultores y pintores. El libro divide en tres etapas la evolución del modernismo madrileño. Una fase preliminar, que se inicia en torno a 1900 con la tímida aparición del art nouveau en realizaciones eclécticas y finaliza con las primeras creaciones donde el estilo se muestra con absoluta claridad; un segundo periodo de amplia difusión, que arranca en 1904 y concluye con el surgimiento del regionalismo; y una época tardía, alrededor de 1920, en la cual el modernismo cede ante diversas tendencias arquitectónicas que, como el art déco, hunden sus raíces en el propio fenómeno modernista.
