NameTreasures from Korea: Arts and Culture of the Joseon Dynasty, 1392-1910
DescriptionThe art of the celebrated Joseon dynasty (1392–1910) will be presented in Philadelphia in an unprecedented exhibition. This first comprehensive survey in the US gathers more than 150 works, including numerous National Treasures that have never before left Korea. On display: screen paintings and calligraphy created for the courts, ceremonial vessels, outstanding glazed ceramics, and works that reflect the dynamic encounters at the end of the 19th century between the “Hermit Kingdom” and the Western world. Illustrated books, metalwork, sculpture, lacquer, furniture, costumes, textiles, and photographs demonstrate the breadth and scope of the dynasty’s artistic achievements.
