Around 1900, the Neuchâtel mountains were in the midst of an industrial and artistic boom. In the wake of the industrial development, the School of Art developed. Teachers and students studied Art Nouveau while taking inspiration from local nature: fir trees and gentian trees became their models. The Style Sapin was born.
