opening of Casa Darvas-La Roche In oradea
20/08/2020
Casa Darvas-La Roche reopened its doors on Thursday 20 August 2020, after a vast restoration project designed to restore its former beauty and glory. The villa, built in the style of the Viennese Secession, has been carefully transformed into an architectural gem that now houses the Art Nouveau Museum.
Oradea, a member of the Réseau Art Nouveau Network, now has the first museum dedicated to the Art Nouveau movement in Romania. A sub-section of the Oradea Museum, the Art Nouveau Museum houses exhibitions dedicated to the “Belle Époque” interiors of Oradea, video projections, as well as artists’ workshops, conference rooms and event spaces. The house’s garden is an oasis of calm in the heart of the city and an intimate space, suitable for cultural or private events.
Built between 1909 and 1912 by brothers László and József Vágó, the house is unique in its beauty and modernity, competing with the most original European architectural creations of the early 20th century. The building, largely preserved in the vision in which it was built a hundred years ago, has many elements of the Viennese secession, found in the geometric forms. The museum exhibition dedicated to the interiors “Belle Époque” of Oradea reconstructs the bourgeois environment of Oradea. The objects (furniture, decorative objects, documents) present in the exhibition were characteristic of the bourgeois houses, villas and palaces built in the Art Nouveau style . With its façade discreetly inserted into the urban complex of Oradea, the building is part of a restoration process that will be completed with funding from European funds.
