Budapest symposium and "EUtopia" project meeting
On 1–2 June 2026, the Museum of Applied Arts (Iparművészeti Museum) in Budapest hosted the international symposium The Cladding of Art Nouveau Buildings, organised within the framework of the European project Art Nouveau as a New EUtopia.
The event brought together 51 researchers, curators and heritage professionals from 16 European territories to explore the theory, history and conservation of cladding materials in Art Nouveau architecture. Particular attention was given to ceramic cladding, terrazzo, hydraulic cement tiles and metlachi, highlighting both their historical significance and the challenges associated with their preservation.
Beyond the presentations and discussions, the symposium offered a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experiences and foster new collaborations for the conservation, interpretation and promotion of Art Nouveau heritage across Europe.

“EUtopia” project partners meet in Budapest
Alongside the symposium, the partners of the European project Art Nouveau as a New EUtopia gathered in Budapest for a project meeting.
This meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress achieved so far, discuss the next phases of the project and reinforce cooperation between partners. Through constructive exchanges and shared perspectives, the consortium continues to develop collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting, preserving and enhancing Art Nouveau heritage at the European level.
