The works of the Art Nouveau as a New EUtopia artists-in-residence
As part of the Creative Europe project Art Nouveau as a New EUtopia, five contemporary artists have created new works inspired by the Art Nouveau legacy, developed during residencies hosted by RANN members across Europe.
Each artist offers a unique lens on the Art Nouveau movement, reinterpreting its ideals through contemporary practice. The result is a constellation of exhibitions exploring how heritage, nature, and artistic innovation intersect today.
Marie Bonnin – Bords perdus
In Bords perdus, French artist Marie Bonnin proposes a poetic and sensory exploration of the natural world, shaped through a visual vocabulary inspired by the decorative arts and motifs of Art Nouveau. Her work engages with the architectural and symbolic layers of Maison Losseau, revealing hidden resonances and new perspectives.
Yunni Cho – Stems of Light: Day and Night at Maison Horta
Korean artist and designer Yunni Cho presents a site-specific installation that explores the interplay between natural light, organic forms, and architectural space. Through a contemporary lens, her work reflects on the atmospheric and symbolic qualities of Art Nouveau interiors, particularly those of Victor Horta’s iconic house
Guillaume Slizewicz – All I Can See Are Ghosts
In Oradea, Belgian designer and digital artist Guillaume Slizewicz created a two-part exhibition that reinterprets the architectural and symbolic heritage of the Darvas-La Roche House. His installation, All I Can See Are Ghosts, pays tribute to the memory of the city’s displaced communities, particularly the Jewish population lost during the Holocaust.
In the adjoining space, Colors in Shapes showcases ceramic objects inspired by the villa’s decorative elements. Produced using 3D modelling and printing, the works blend ancestral craft with digital process, highlighting how material memory shapes contemporary form.

During her residency at LAB·AN x Hôtel van Eetvelde, the Laboratoire de l’Art Nouveau hosted at the Hôtel van Eetvelde, Franco-Gambian artist Marie-Mam Sai Bellier developed a sculptural and visual investigation into the materials and colonial legacies embedded in Belgian Art Nouveau. Charlotte Moore, John Pender Kazior, Inna Zrajaeva – Organism in the Ornament
This collaborative exhibition, developed during a residency in Aveiro, brings together Charlotte Moore, John Pender Kazior, and Inna Zrajaeva. Their ceramic works are inspired by local Art Nouveau façades and the biodiversity of the Ria de Aveiro lagoon.
Organism in the Ornament revives the Art Nouveau façade as a narrative space, telling new stories of coexistence, extinction, and our changing relationship with nature. The project reflects on how artistic practice can renew our understanding of both ecological and architectural heritage in a time of environmental urgency.
